Dana wants a challenge and signs up to cook for the infuriating wildlife guide, Jimmy, at a remote hunting camp on the BC alpine tundra. She is assisted by a calm Indigenous couple, Bill and Jeannie, who work at the camp and share their journey of healing. When she leaves Vancouver in July, 1974, she expects to see caribou, but is unaware that she will encounter bears, wolves and a murderer.
The author, Lorri Rudland, was born in Haida Gwaii, off the coast of BC, of white ancestry – her mother was Scottish and her father was Canadian born of German parents, who settled in Saskatchewan around 1904.
The Hunt on the Tundra is her first novel, and was inspired by experiences she had when she was a cook at a tundra hunting camp. She has been writing for many years and some of her shorter pieces can be found on Quirk-e.ca.
This book is now available from the Friesen Press bookstore online. It will also be available from Amazon in mid-June.
