Early in 2026 QUIRK-E received the Seniors Leadership Award from SFU Gerontology Research. We were nominated by other organizations in our community who wrote letters of support. This is the first in a series of posts showcasing excerpts from those letters.
This excerpt is taken from a letter written on Jan 22, 2026 by Alex Ash, Programs and Engagement Manager at QMUNITY.
QUIRK-E is a writing and arts collective for queer older adults and the impact on their community has been huge. They are a shining example of what it means to be respected elders within our community. This group brings a rich tapestry of experience, and shares all they have with a wide audience. I recently had the pleasure of attending a GSA meeting where the students were talking excitedly about when QUIRK-E came to their school.
This group is a pillar in our community, their written content, community care, and ongoing group sessions show their commitment to leadership and engagement and I wholeheartedly believe they should be the recipients of this prestigious award.
With gratitude,
Alex Ash
