Frank Thomas Gillespie 1951-2016

Frank Gillespie

FRANK GILLESPIE was a member of QUIRK-E from 2012 to 2015. Avid is the perfect word to describe him. Frank was an avid reader, rarely without a book or magazine in his capacious bag. He was an avid trade unionist, rarely without a meeting, a conference or a picket line to attend. Frank was a Registered Nurse and the British Columbia Nurses Union drew him first as an unpaid volunteer and then as an employee. He avidly protected the working lives of nurses in BC.

A large part of Frank’s heart and soul belonged to the Canadian Maritimes where he was born, raised, and educated. He was at his best telling tales of hitchhiking around Nova Scotia or of eating frozen sweetened condensed milk as ice cream in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland when resources were scant. Frank had a way with words, saying he was “full as an egg” after a good meal or that the sidewalks were “as hot as the hinges of hell” on an August day in Vancouver.
