We celebrated loud, proud, and in good company at QMUNITY Seniors biggest event of the year! Pat Hogan shared a tribute to Chris Morrissey, Garth McIver and Annie Newman regaled us with their stories. Other performers included Jaylene Tyme, well known alumna of Canada’s Drag Race. Jaylene’s welcome spoke of the crucial support offered by inclusive community services. QUIRK-E enrolled subscribers to our website and distributed 60 copies of our newest zine, Legacy: Yours, Mine and Ours, generously funded by QMUNITY Seniors. We offered best wishes to former seniors coordinator Courtney Deickbrader and welcomed Allie King into that permanent role. We received the new addition of QMUNITY’s Angles newspaper which highlights stories by Quirkies Lorri Rudland, Ellen Woodsworth and Marsha Ablowitz. Ideal weather on the plaza in front of Gordon Neighbourhood House on August 7 made for a joyful day of festivities, fabulous drag, and BBQ hot dogs. Best of all, we had sustaining dialogues with friends, new and old. We remember that PRIDE is both a protest and a party. We trailblazers created both and will persist.
