Janie Cawley

Janie Cawley was born in Vancouver and spent most of her adult life living in a lesbian co-op in East Vancouver. Between 1965 and 1972 she received a BA and MA in history at Simon Fraser University and later went on to receive a PhD in Criminology in 1992. She taught criminology at Kwantlen Polytech University from 1992 to 2012. Janie has two daughters from her first marriage, which ended in divorce in 1985.

In 2005, when the laws concerning same-sex marriage changed, Janie married her partner, and they now have  a combined total of 10 grandchildren. She has always enjoyed telling stories to children, grandchildren, and others around the dinner table, and they always asked to hear more. She did not, however, start writing these stories until she joined the Quirk-e writing and imaging collective in 2011. Quirk-e is where Janie discovered her love of writing, and she looks forward to sharing even more of her stories.
