Gayle Roberts was born in England shortly after the start of World War II. Gayle and her parents immigrated to Canada in 1951 where she attended Victoria High School and the University of Victoria. Gayle has an MSc degree in physics and a BC teaching diploma. During her teaching career, Gayle taught Physics and General Science at two Vancouver high schools—Gladstone Secondary and Lord Byng Secondary—and a three-year teaching appointment at the United World College of South East Asia in Singapore. During her last five or so years of teaching, Gayle was also the Science Department Head at Lord Byng Secondary School.
Gayle’s childhood feelings and memories were predominately of wishing she was a girl. As she grew older, her feelings intensified culminating in a sense of intense shame during her fifties. By then, Gayle’s self-awareness and understanding of gender dysphoria caused her to recognize that transitioning from male to female was the only way she could achieve peace of mind. She was 56 when she transitioned. Gayle is a coauthor of the guidebook Supporting Transgender and Transsexual Students in K-12 Schools. A Guide for Educators. At long last, Gayle has attained peace of mind.
