Life Insurance

Quiet, slow, gentle morning
sounds of rain on the window
the ring of the phone bursts into the tranquility —
insurance!
resurgence of fears
of sickness, of death, of preparedness.
There is no escape.
Yet today the table turns.
I resent your question.
No, I do not have a husband.
I am a lesbian and I have a partner.

Today it is about life!
