Learning how to Prevent Falls

Quirk-e hosted a workshop with essential information about Preventing Falls on Wednesday March 26,1:30-3:00pm, at Britannia 55+ Centre, presented by Lisa Perrett, BSc(N), RN, Public Health Nurse, and Jay, a kinesiologist, both from REACH Community Health Centre. They actively engaged all fourteen queer seniors there, with lively responses to our comments and ideas.

Thank you for inviting us and for the warm welcome! My favorite comment came from a participant who shared afterwards “I didn’t realize how much we knew!” which I thought was a great testament to the knowledge of your group and the power of sharing experiences, Lisa reflected.

To make information accessible to all who could benefit, Lisa provided a link: This is the landing page for fall prevention resources. On this website folks can find exercise programs, the “Staying Independent Checklist”, a home safety checklist and more. Most of their handouts can be found in English, Chinese (Simplified), Farsi, French, Korean, Punjabi, Spanish and Vietnamese. Here is the link: Preventing falls as you age | HealthLink BC
