Transformations – 2007

Edited by Wayson Choy

In our anthology Volume 2 published in 2007, our members write to break the silence. We write honestly about ourselves, noticing everything – the sags, the wrinkles, the moments of grace, the beautiful and the absurd. Being old and being queer is not a single experience, to be expressed by a single voice. We are a discordant and unruly choir, insisting, despite the odds, on showing the height, depth, and breath of our experiences. We have been working together now for ten months, writing about community, love, oppression, class, race, sex and family – no holds barred. This collection of poetry, memoir and fiction is the result.

Review:
Wayson Choy, author of The Jade Peony, says
“Here are frank stories and poems that will include those who explore their own gender unique lives. Ready or not these writers, (writing at all levels of their craft) risk their private thoughts and feelings to awaken self-awareness in others like themselves.
“Join us,” they seem to say.
“Write your truth too.”
The best of these selections capture with poignant clarity what it means to struggle with identity and taboos, with family, lovers and loved ones.
More important, these writers all express a truth about themselves, telling of their individual worlds with creative pleasure and courage. Bravo! Write on!”
